| 2009 has been a year for the record books! We had one of our best calving seasons ever, and the most successful bull sales in our history, selling over 40 bulls in 2009! We were affected by drought as severe as what we experienced in 2001 and 2002. We celebrated Tyson and Lisa's marriage, then were hit with a storm so severe it left major property damage and completely wiped out our crop and pasture. Highs and lows, to be sure!
After the storm and our family 'summit' to discuss how to deal with the feed shortage, sage Grandma Donna declared the following: "We've been skirting around farm succession for two years now. Maybe this situation provides the catalyst to do it!" So we decided to sell off the mature cow herd and sires and half of the heifer calves to set We are retaining the bred heifers and first-calvers, as well as half the heifer calf crop. This will give Rob, Brody, Tracy & Rob, and Tyson & Lisa the nucleus of a herd that will grow over the next few years. The cows have been culled and only the best are left. The herdsires on offer are outstanding and the heifers truly are a "sexy" lot, whether you are looking for a potential show heifer or a cow in the making.
